Nutrients/ Foods And Our Genes
Once you know your genetic profile you can learn so much about which foods and nutrients work well for our body. Here at the clinic we offer SMART DNA testing. In this we test many genes. Genes are not things you change but by knowing our genetic profile here at the clinic we can teach you about what foods and nutrients will optimise your genetic potential for great health.
Once a gene test is done it takes three weeks to get the results. Then Maedy personally writes up a summary of action plans for your file and for you. This action plan tells you the client what changes you can make personally to optimise your health. Included in this summary is an action plan for your practitioner to also follow as a guideline. This may include suggestions for specific blood test monitoring or nutrients to add or foods to eat or avoid based on your individual genetic profile. It is so exciting. the cost of this test is $470 but is an investment in life
When it come to Nutrients and Foods here are some of the genes looked at and why:
VITAMINS
VITAMIN B2 - MTHFR ( rs1801133) - CT or TT lower levels of Riboflavin can affect homocysteine
VITAMIN B12 - FUT2 ( rs602662 )- AG. or GG - prone to lower levels of B12 in blood. this can affect energy, detoxification and homocysteine
VITAMIN C - SLC23A11 (rs33972313) - AG or AA prone to lower blood levels of Vitamin C
GSTT11/ GSTM1 - This can show risks of lower vitamin C if you do not eat enough vitamin C foods.
VITAMIN D - GC( rs2282679) - AC or CC
- DHCR7 - GT or GG
- CYP2R1 - AG. or GG all three genes play a role in Vitamin D insufficiency
INTERGENIC ( rs12272004) - CC - Prone to lower plasma levels of Vitamin E
NUTRIENTS
CO- ENZYME Q10 - NQO1 ( rs1800566) - CT or CC- this can be indicative of you needing Ubiqinol
OMEGA 3 and OMEGA 6 - FADS1 ( rs1174547) CC or CT- This gene can be associated with decreased blood levels of omega 3 and omega 6.
CHOILINE - MTHFD1 ( rs2236225) - AA - This person shows a higher dietary requirement for choline.
FOOD RESPONSES
SALT - AGT( rs699) and ACE (rs4343) CT and AA - these genes are tested to see if a person is sensitive to salt. Someone showing this gene I would encourage a low salt diet and if any salt high quality pure salt.
CAFFEINE - CYP1A2 (rs762551) AC or CC- If showing up I would discourage caffeine consumption as the body slowly metabolises caffeine
LACTOSE - MCM6 (rs4988235) CC -can show a sensitivity to lactose. We would encourage this person to limit lactose containing foods.
GLUTEN - DQ2.5 ( rs2187668) and DQ8 ( rs 7454108) A person showing up with these can have a 10 percent chance of coeliac developing. Maybe best to keep gluten low in their diet. Especially in countries where gluten has been genetically modified.Australia has genetically modified gluten.
