Is The Drama In Your Life Effecting Your Health?
When is drama a positive thing and when is it making a negative impact on your health? There is an importance of drama in entertainment, in story telling and imagination but when is enough enough.
In social media and the news, drama seems to be all around us. Many people find drama in every day activities and life demands. There are real dramas happening everyday.
“Drama does not have to be part of my life,” is one saying worth using if drama causes stress in your life.
Remember when you get stressed you need to bring things to reality and really think thru what is the worst thing that could happen now and what is the most important thing to do NOW. This little piece of advice can help in many situations. I teach this to my children as I watch them go thru the dramas of puberty, social media, friendships and study.
Drama has the power to influence your health physically and emotionally. The word 'Drama' has two definitions - 1. a play or theatre production and 2. an exciting, emotional, unexpected event or circumstance.
When you hear bad news or are in the middle of drama you may lose your appetite, or binge, or have problems sleeping and even at your worst have panic attacks or anxiety. Drama is inevitable in a lifetime. At some point many people in everyday life may be faced with a dramatic situation; however unnecessary drama can and should be avoided. Take action where possible to avoid dramatic situations or dramatic reactions. A dramatic response to an event does not help a situation but can at times make it worse.
Some ideas about drama
Bad news sells papers, yet a good news story lifts our spirit. My dream is to hear more good news stories.
Help your children learn to keep drama in perspective.
Help teenagers avoid dramatic/toxic relationships and friendships.
Be aware of social media drama.
Do people create drama because they are bored or lonely?
Do people thrive on it to make their life more interesting?
Do not surround yourself with dramatic friends unless you are aware of grounding their dramas and not taking them on. Create healthy boundaries.
Family can be a bit tricky. Nearly everyone has experienced drama in their family from time to time. For some this starts in childhood with siblings and continues into adulthood. For others it is dramatic parent/s or dramatic children. Nobody feels good about family conflict and in some families it is bearable and infrequent. In other families it is a constant stress and non stop drama. This can be tricky to navigate and it is important to seek professional help when needed before this continual drama effects your health. Another thing that happens in families is that family members learn to " walk on egg shells " to avoid conflict. This is not always healthy either.
When you watch drama in most movies/theatre you can separate the drama from your reality- yet when you are in it, it is not so easy. The movie has a finish yet when you are living it - the drama goes on.
Many people talk of being stressed; is a feeling of stress caused by drama?
