Colds And Coughs
It is not unhealthy to get an occasional cold and get over it quickly. However if you are getting colds that last for weeks or recurrent infections this is not a good thing.
Here at Possum Hollow we try and teach our clients how to get on top of an infection as early as possible. We help to establish whether an infection is a virus or bacterial infection. This is important for identifying the most appropriate remedies . It is nice to see if you can get through twelve months with minimal infections and minimal antibiotics. We try and treat bacterial infections before antibiotics are needed. With a bacterial infection you do have the option to resort to antibiotics prescibed by your medical practitioner if an infection is bad. The reason to keep it to a minimal is that antibiotics kill the good bacteria and the bad. By killing the good bacteria it lowers our resistence to more infections. It is recommended to give a probiotic with and after antibiotics to rebuild the good bacteria and help build your resistance against a secondary infection.
Take note - antibiotics should NOT be given for virus' as this can make the virus worse and then take longer for recovery. Virus' like CMV (cytomegalivirus) and Glandular fever are much easier to treat naturally and can be made worse with antibiotics. The earlier these virus' are treated the better. Untreated virus' like these can lead to chronic fatigue but treated early you can fully recover quickly.
Every year we see different infections and you see trends in the most useful remedies for these infections for the year. Infections often slightly mutate over time, so even the classic flu virus is slightly different each year.
If you visit the Naturopath regularly you would know some of the best remedies for you to start having at the first sign of a cold. This is the best strategy to show your body who is boss and create an environment within your body that is not conducive to infection.
