951 - Aspartame
Aspartame is classified as an excitotoxin which means it is a substance that leads to neuronal death by over-activating excitatory amino acid receptors as linked to various acute and chronic neurological diseases in scientific studies. Three people worth listening too learn more about excitotoxins like aspartame and MSG are Dr. Russel Baylock, HJ Roberts MD and Sue Dengate.
The hardest thing in writing this article is to look for research that is not industry-funded but information that is from independent research, not biased to the food industry. .
The more you read on aspartame the more you want to avoid it and educate your children to avoid it.
Aspartame consists of the amino acids’ phenylalanine (50%), aspartic acid (40%), and a methyl ester (10%) that promptly becomes free methanol after entering the stomach. The breakdown of this phenylalanine to highly vasoactive substances—such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine is what becomes unsafe to the body.
The weirdest thing is we all assume as sugar-free we will lose weight and help diabetes by using aspartame, yet research in Weizman institute of science in Israel found the opposite. The researchers showed that mice given water sweetened with commonly used artificial sweeteners - aspartame, sucralose, or saccharin - had elevated blood-glucose levels after eleven weeks compared to mice given either a similar glucose solution or water alone.
Common products containing aspartame that you may use or know of are many sugar-free chewing gums, some cordials, and some classic sugar-free soft drinks, just to name a few. Then there are the people who in staying off sugar, add multiple aspartame sugar replacements to their personal teas and coffees.
Noted in my reading and clinical observation, some of the side effects of aspartame use can be:

Dr. Roberts put together a list of falsely diagnosed conditions that were simply part of what can be now called Aspartame Disease. Once aspartame is abstained from, they no longer have symptoms.
This includes conditions such as:
|
|
Based on hundreds of case studies, Dr. Roberts concluded that these unexplained symptoms may be reactions to products containing aspartame. His book not only looks at the clinical picture of aspartame, but also describes how aspartame received FDA approval without undergoing testing in humans, and how the United States Senate allowed this well-financed chemical additive to sail through the official government channels.
In Australia and New Zealand aspartame is deemed safe as a food additive listed in Schedule Eight for consumption but please read more about it and make this decision for yourself. If you have any of the above-listed conditions, it is worth abstaining from these substances and reviewing your condition before other medicines are prescribed which may make the picture more complicated. If you have any concerns, please talk with your practitioner.
Talk to your practitioner about alternative sweeteners that might suit you better or abstain from sweeteners entirely
