MISSING YOUR MASSAGE?
During the 2020 Covid period are you missing your massage? With the government rules currently remedial massage, relaxation massage and myotherapy are forbidden. You can however see your acupuncturist, physiotherapist, osteopathy and chiropractor if the appointment is deemed to keep you out of hospital.
Naturopaths and psychologists can work distantly. Here at the clinic I can still help people in the same way I help people interstate or internationally with phone consultations. When talking to clients they are really missing their body work and massage.
MENTAL STATE EFFECTS YOUR MUSCLES
Many people are highly stress and emotional and frustrated which tightens up our muscles. It is a hard timed people are having good days and bad days. Keeping things in like meditation, outside exercise, gardening, cooking, art, fun distracting books and movies all can help. At times when you are low emotionally, these activities can be the last things you want to do but by forcing yourself to do them can be therapeutic It is also critical at these times to get enough sleep and be aware of not having too much exposure to electric magnetic radiation with phones, iPads and computers. Please keep a balance with the use of these devices and keep them out of the bedroom. Trust and hope this time will pass.
This illness of 2020 has become quite political so be aware you are not watching news or social media if it is making you tense emotionally or physically. Being informed is important but know when enough is enough.
POSTURE
To help you muscles be aware of your spine when exercising, gardening, watching shows, teaching kids and working on the computer.
Things that may help:
- Bosu Balls or Zerdisc - standing on these and doing exercise is great for your whole spine and core stability
- Planking - a simple exercise for core stability
- Sitting forward in your seat at the desk so your spine has a natural curve and you are not slumping
- Walking is so good for your spine with good shoe support. In saying this some people benefit from walking in bare feet.
- Do not slump on the couch for long without breaking it up with stretching or standing up
- Online pilates classes
TOUCH
- Touch is a part of the therapy of massage. Many people do not get the touch they need in their world especially if they live on their own.
- If you can get a friend or family member to hug you or touch you that can be useful. Of course not if at risk of covid.
- A lovely healthy moisturiser applied to yourself where you can reach or via a family member. Even a foot massage can help as in reflexology helping relax the foot can help other areas of the back.
- Remember nurturing yourself and others is so important
MINERALS and NATURAL ANTI INFLAMMATORIES
- Minerals can help your muscles too. For the clients that see Emma, Melanie, Meredith or myself you may already know the minerals that you require to help your muscles if in discomfort. Supplements like Magnesium, Calcium, Silica, Collagen, Vitamin D and Proteins can be useful at times of muscle tension.
- There are also natural anti-inflammatory remedies we can prescribe to aid pain.
- Anti Inflammatory creams can be used too.
- Magnesium creams, gels, sprays can be used for the right person.
BATHING AND BATHS
- Hot showers, warm baths and spas may be helpful. If you have these available to you and it helps your back then include it for your regime.
- For the right person a magnesium bath twice a week can relieve muscles a lot. To often can work the opposite and drain your minerals.
- Aromatherapy or essential oils in the bath can also be relaxing.
HOPEFULLY THE RULES ON MASSAGE WILL CHANGE AND WE CAN GET BACK TO SHAR ,MELISSA, BEN and ALLISON sooner.
